Otti conveyed his appreciation on Saturday, August 3, during a Sabbath service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on No. 1 School Road in the Aba South Conference.

Previously, Otti had urged Abians not to participate in the protests during a private breakfast meeting with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. In a state broadcast on July 31, Otti acknowledged the right to peaceful protest but warned of the potential for disruptions and violence undermining his administration’s progress.

Addressing the church congregation, Otti said, “I appreciate everyone who followed my advice not to engage in disruptive protests or activities. We face many challenges, but causing further disruption would only worsen the situation for those who rely on daily earnings, such as traders and transport workers.”

He emphasized that while protest is a right, he advocated for peaceful discussion and constructive solutions. He reassured residents that the government is attentive to their concerns and working on addressing them.

Otti also announced the imminent repair of School Road, which had been in poor condition. He encouraged the congregation to remain focused on their blessings and to support the government with their prayers.

During the service, Pastor Ifeanyichukwu Nwaoguikpe delivered a sermon titled “Living out the Christian Slogan,” emphasizing the Christian mission and the importance of helping others. The church ministers prayed for the governor and his team.

Attendees included Aba Central State Constituency lawmaker Hon. Ucheonye Stephen, Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Affairs Apostle K.C. Wiper, Aba South Mayor Hon. Uche Nwogu, and Acting Labour Party Chairman Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti, among others.
