Speaking to the media after inaugurating a digital library and other development projects in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central, emphasized that the Tinubu administration inherited a troubled economy and is actively working to address these persistent problems.
Bamidele urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the government’s efforts. He said, “The current economic situation is concerning, but it’s not a new development. The difference now is that we have a government that is honest about the economic state and is willing to make tough decisions, despite the temporary hardships.”
He criticized previous administrations for being dishonest about the economy, mentioning that they resorted to printing money, which contributed to the inflation. In contrast, Bamidele praised the current government for taking steps such as ending oil subsidies and streamlining forex services. He highlighted the administration’s focus on increasing capital expenditure over recurrent spending as a way to stimulate economic growth.
Additionally, Bamidele reported that the parliament passed four executive bills in a single day before going on recess. These included a significant increase in the national minimum wage, which was set at ₦70,000, and amendments to the 2024 Appropriation Act and Finance Act. He also noted a bill ensuring the Inspector General of Police can serve a full four-year term.
Bamidele explained his decision to build the digital library, saying it reflects his commitment to education, having experienced difficulties in accessing learning resources himself.
He concluded by addressing critics of his legislative work, emphasizing his dedication to supporting both the executive branch and his constituents.
