Political Firestorm: Natasha Drags Akpabio To IGP Over ‘Malicious’ Plot
Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has submitted a formal petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating a calculated campaign to destroy her political and personal reputation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The petition, filed through her legal team led by Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), describes what she terms a “malicious and dangerous attempt” to silence her following her public sexual harassment allegation against Akpabio during a national television appearance on February 28, 2025.
According to the document, the attacks intensified through an online campaign allegedly spearheaded by Texas-based Nigerian, Dr. Sandra Chidinma Duru, popularly known online as “Professor Mgbeke.” The senator claims Dr. Duru initially posed as an ally but turned hostile after she declined financial demands and rejected offers to manage her public image.
“This is a coordinated campaign involving criminal defamation, cyberstalking, conspiracy, and even attempted assassination,” the petition asserts, backed by what her lawyers describe as “incontrovertible evidence.”
A May 1, 2025, Facebook livestream by Dr. Duru reportedly exposed phone call logs containing the names of top individuals, including “Senator Akpabio,” “IGP Kayode,” and media personality Oby Ndukwe. The petition argues these were not random contacts, but signs of deeper coordination and possible complicity.
Disturbingly, the livestream also included inflammatory ethnic remarks, with Dr. Duru accusing Senator Natasha of trying to “remove the Yoruba government.” Her legal team calls this “a treasonous and dangerous form of ethnic incitement,” alleging it could provoke national unrest and put their client’s life at risk.
The petition also points to the public support Dr. Duru received from Akpabio’s legislative aide and legal counsel, Monday Ubani (SAN), reinforcing suspicions of a broader plot originating from Akpabio’s inner circle.
The backdrop to these developments is Senator Natasha’s suspension from the Senate in March 2025, which many interpret as political retaliation for her public accusation against the Senate President.
The legal filing cites Sections 391(1) of the Penal Code (criminal defamation) and 24(1) of the Cybercrimes Act (cyberstalking), calling for the prosecution of Dr. Duru and an investigation into the roles of Akpabio and others.
Natasha’s lawyers demand immediate police action to investigate the campaign, prosecute the perpetrators, and ensure her safety. They emphasize the case’s broader significance for gender justice and institutional integrity in Nigeria.
“Our client deserves protection, not persecution,” the petition states. “No woman in public service should be punished for speaking out about abuse.”
