On Wednesday, the coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform in a bid to unseat the APC in the 2027 general elections. David Mark was unveiled as interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was named interim National Secretary.

Reacting to the development, APC spokesperson Felix Morka, in a statement issued Thursday, criticized the coalition’s launch, describing Mark’s speech as embarrassingly hollow and devoid of direction or substance.

Morka said Mark’s remarks were riddled with falsehoods and unfounded accusations against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, lacking any real vision or value for Nigerians. He dismissed the coalition as a gathering of politically entitled individuals who confuse their personal ambitions with national interest and are unwilling to exist outside of political power or privilege.

He described the group as a “self-absorbed alliance of vendetta-driven figures” obsessed with seizing power at any cost.

“From start to finish,” the statement read, “Senator Mark offered no meaningful vision or policy alternative — just a loud, desperate cry for power. What does this coalition truly offer Nigerians? Why should citizens trust a group of egotists who survive only on power and patronage?”

Morka further argued that after months of indecision and searching for a platform, Mark and his allies failed to present any concrete plan to improve upon the government’s bold economic and policy reforms.

“What alternative policies are they proposing? How do they compare to the transformative impact of the current administration’s agenda?” he asked. “What guiding principles or ideology does this coalition even have, apart from a relentless lust for power by any means — whether justified or not?”
