Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, addressed criticisms following the President’s statement about a new plan to work with state governors to cultivate 10 million hectares nationwide.
Journalist Oseni Rufai of Arise TV had criticized the President for not meeting his earlier commitment to cultivate 500,000 hectares and questioned the feasibility of the new 10 million-hectare target. Rufai also called for the dismissal of the President’s speechwriter.
In response, Ajayi clarified that the federal government, in collaboration with state governors, has indeed surpassed the 500,000-hectare target. He stated, “Over 500,000 hectares have been cultivated in at least five states, with Jigawa and Kebbi contributing 300,000 hectares for dry season farming alone. Niger State is working on 1 million hectares. The President’s goal of 10 million hectares remains clear and achievable.
