Presidency Backs EFCC: Atiku’s Son-In-Law Must Face The Law – No Sacred Cows
The Presidency has thrown its weight behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the agency declared Abdullahi Haske, businessman and son-in-law to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, wanted over alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Haske, founder of AA & R Investment Group, was placed on the EFCC’s wanted list for allegedly violating the conditions of his administrative bail and repeatedly ignoring invitations from the commission.
An EFCC insider told Punch that Haske had been under investigation for months on corruption-related allegations but went into hiding after securing bail.
“His case has been ongoing for some time, and he was duly invited. He is under investigation for corruption but breached his bail terms by failing to report as required. He would not have been declared wanted if he honoured the invitations. His disappearance left the commission with no choice,” the source explained.
Reacting, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, described the move as political persecution, alleging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was targeting opposition figures.
“Our concern is that this may be another case of victimisation simply because the young man is related to the former Vice President. Tinubu has a track record of using state instruments to harass and intimidate opponents,” Ibe argued.
But the Presidency dismissed the allegation, insisting that the EFCC was acting independently within its legal mandate.
Speaking through Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency said:
“There is no harassment or victimisation here—only the lawful operation of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions. No one is above the law.”
Dare stressed that Tinubu’s government was committed to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring due process, contrasting it with past administrations accused of using state institutions for political witch-hunts.
He added: “Those trying to politicise the EFCC’s action against a son-in-law of a former Vice President are grasping at straws. The commission is fulfilling its statutory duties, and President Tinubu does not misuse his office. This administration will continue to build strong institutions that act without fear or favour, ensuring investigations and prosecutions are backed by credible evidence.”
