“While the French-Nigeria Business Forum has made significant strides, we need to do more to address food security. We cannot afford to neglect investments in each other’s countries,” Tinubu stated during the meeting.
He highlighted Nigeria’s growing financial sector, which he said provides a strong foundation for foreign investments, particularly in agriculture and food security. “Nigeria’s financial sector is evolving rapidly, and we are creating opportunities for French companies, especially in the area of food security,” Tinubu explained.
The President emphasized that Nigeria is developing a comprehensive food security program to encourage private sector participation. “We are working hard to ensure stability, and although we are getting closer to our goals, we can do even better,” he added.
Tinubu further assured Macron that Nigeria is actively repositioning its economy to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which would directly improve the lives of Nigerian citizens. “Nigeria is open for business, and we have a vibrant, educated youth population that is eager to be trained in entrepreneurship and development,” he said.
In addition to food security, President Tinubu urged the French government to help develop Nigeria’s youth by providing training programs tailored to their skills. He also emphasized the need to “de-risk” investments in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, stressing the country’s vast untapped potential.
“Food security is a pressing issue across Africa,” Tinubu noted. “A starved nation cannot focus on anything else, and in the 21st century, no child should go to bed hungry. If African children are well-nourished and educated, it will benefit the entire continent.”
On the issue of security, President Tinubu called for a collective approach to counter terrorism and migration challenges, noting that Nigeria is committed to partnering with France on security initiatives.
“We are ready to partner with France to address migration challenges and strengthen our security operations,” he said.
Tinubu also pointed out the vast untapped potential of Nigeria’s blue economy, particularly in fisheries. “In Lagos, we have successfully tamed the Atlantic Ocean. Fisheries are a key area for investment, and we want to assure French investors that Nigeria is open for business,” he added.
President Macron responded positively, expressing his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, both within Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). “We believe in your leadership, Mr. President, and we are confident that under your guidance, Nigeria will further strengthen its ties with France and lead ECOWAS in regional progress,” Macron said.
He also commended Tinubu’s efforts in transforming Nigeria’s economy and reiterated France’s commitment to working together for global success. “We appreciate your visionary leadership, and we look forward to working closely with you to achieve collective progress,” Macron concluded.
