President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria will not serve as a hub for stolen vehicles or ill-gotten wealth. His statement was delivered by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in response to the recent return of 53 vehicles and $180,300 by the EFCC to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), on behalf of two Canadian victims of cybercrime committed by Nigerian nationals.

Commending the EFCC for their ongoing efforts, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting all forms of criminal activity. He noted that Nigeria would continue to collaborate with international partners to disrupt cybercriminal networks and transnational car theft rings.

The President stressed that depriving criminals of the proceeds from their illegal activities is one of the most effective strategies for law enforcement. He praised the EFCC’s cooperation with foreign partners in recovering stolen assets and urged continued vigilance against the export of stolen vehicles to Nigeria.

In addition, Tinubu directed anti-corruption agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s financial integrity from organized crime. He also emphasized that seized assets should be preserved for the benefit of the state, society, and victims, in accordance with national laws and international agreements. Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling financial crimes, he declared, “Nigeria is not a destination for stolen vehicles or illicit wealth from other countries.”
