The Kremlin confirmed the discussion in an official statement, noting that Moscow is prepared to support diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the crisis.
According to the statement, Putin expressed Russia’s willingness to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
“Vladimir Putin emphasised his readiness to further facilitate the search for a political and diplomatic settlement to the conflict, and to mediate efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,” the Kremlin said.
The call came shortly after negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad ended without any agreement.
Meanwhile, the entire US negotiating delegation reportedly left Pakistan following the unsuccessful talks.
A US official confirmed that no members of the team remained in Islamabad to continue any form of back-channel engagement.
The delegation was said to include lead negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who departed after extended discussions failed to produce significant progress on the Iran-related dispute.
During a stopover at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, an official accompanying US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that all members of the delegation had withdrawn, despite earlier expectations that some officials might remain behind for further talks.
Reacting to the collapse of the negotiations, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said the US delegation failed to build trust during the discussions.
“My colleagues in the Iranian delegation put forward constructive initiatives, but the other side was unable to gain the trust of the Iranian delegation,” he said in a post on .
The breakdown of talks has raised fresh concerns over possible escalation in the Middle East, as diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis remain uncertain.
