Revealed: The Controversial Property Behind Wike’s Clash With Naval Officer
New information has emerged regarding the land dispute in Abuja that sparked a tense confrontation earlier this week between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Naval Officer Lt. A.M. Yerima.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to sources who spoke with The Nation, representatives of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (retd.), visited the FCT Administration on Wednesday, presenting documents related to the disputed 2.5-acre property.
The meeting, reportedly coordinated by the Nigerian Navy, included Gambo’s private lawyer and officials from Santos Nigeria Limited, the company that sold the land to the retired naval chief in 2020.
A source familiar with the engagement stated that the delegation “submitted all relevant documents, which had already been acknowledged by Mukthar Galadima, Director of Development Control.”
The conflict came to a head on Tuesday at Plot 1946, Gaduwa District, when Wike, accompanied by FCTA officials, confronted Lt. Yerima. The minister accused the officer and his team of preventing access to the site, where construction was ongoing, after operatives earlier blocked Development Control staff from enforcing a stop-work order.
Viral footage captured a visibly frustrated Wike in a heated exchange with Lt. Yerima, who repeatedly maintained he was acting on “orders from above,” reportedly linked to the former naval chief.
Wike rejected this explanation, questioning the military’s role in protecting a privately owned property under development without the approval of the FCTA.
