The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) for its ongoing detention of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Since his suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 14, Bawa has been held in custody by the DSS without any trial or formal charges.

The group expressed deep concern that Bawa’s prolonged detention without clear charges or access to legal representation is indicative of “potential fascism and a full-blown dictatorship” under President Tinubu’s administration.

Onwubiko emphasized that the lack of transparency regarding Bawa’s situation and the disregard for his fundamental rights portray a violation of due process and constitutional principles.

HURIWA demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Bawa, calling for respect of the rule of law and international standards.

The statement further called upon relevant authorities to uphold justice, due process, and the protection of fundamental rights. HURIWA urged the Nigerian government to address the situation transparently, ensuring that no individual faces arbitrary or unlawful detention.
