According to Sahara Reporters, the cash was allegedly handed out at Akpabio’s guest house, located at No. 22 Yedeseram Street, Maitama, Abuja. Sources familiar with the matter claim that on Wednesday night, 42 senators each received $10,000, while on Tuesday night, 45 senators were given $5,000 to support the controversial emergency rule.
It was further alleged that Labour Party Senators Victor Umeh and Neda Imasuen played a key role in coordinating the payouts.
“They were the only Labour Party senators present at both gatherings and also collected the money,” a source disclosed to Sahara Reporters.
The report also claims that Akpabio deliberately delayed the debate on the Rivers emergency rule until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, ensuring that many senators had left the chamber before discussions commenced.
Additionally, sources allege that the funds were provided by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after President Tinubu instructed him to “handle the groundwork” for the emergency rule. Over $3 million was reportedly made available during a meeting between Wike and Akpabio.
Following this, Akpabio allegedly invited select senators to an Iftar dinner, where he distributed dollars based on their seniority.
