Secret Talks? PDP Governors Huddle Behind Closed Doors Amid Party Tensions
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau, ahead of the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
While the exact agenda of the meeting remains unclear, it is believed to be linked to the ongoing leadership crisis within the party. One of the major issues expected to dominate discussions is the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket. The party is considering three options: zoning the ticket to the South, zoning it to the North, or leaving it open. However, many key stakeholders are reportedly in favour of the South, arguing that the region still has four years left in the power-sharing arrangement.
Meanwhile, PDP chieftain Olabode George has cautioned members against sabotaging the party’s progress. Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, the elder statesman stressed that the party will no longer condone internal sabotage. He urged dissenters to leave if they have no interest in strengthening the party.
George further called on the PDP leadership to take decisive steps against individuals undermining the party’s unity, noting that this is essential for the PDP to remain a credible opposition ahead of its next national convention. He also explained that the zoning committee, established by the NEC, has been tasked with reviewing leadership arrangements across the country’s geopolitical zones.
The former deputy national chairman confirmed that what was initially planned as a non-elective convention has now been converted into an elective one due to internal crises and the resignation of several key officials.
