Uchechigeme Anyanwụụtụtụ Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has revisited the events surrounding her husband’s abduction in 2009, describing it as one of the most painful chapters in their prolonged struggle.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a post shared on social media on Thursday, Okwu-Kanu said she and her husband endured profound personal sacrifices in their quest for what she termed the “restoration and transformation” of their people.

She recounted that Kanu was seized in broad daylight on December 19, 2009—the same day their traditional wedding was scheduled to take place.

According to her, the abduction occurred at their family compound and was allegedly carried out by individuals loyal to Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

Okwu-Kanu accused Uwazuruike of betraying her husband, describing the incident as a traumatic experience that still haunts her.

She alleged that Kanu was beaten and subjected to public humiliation during the incident.

Explaining the alleged motive, she claimed that Kanu’s “crime” was his opposition to what he saw as the commercialization of the Igbo struggle, including the sale of purported Biafran passports, vehicle number plates, and plans to issue currency for personal profit.

Despite the painful memories, Okwu-Kanu struck a hopeful note, urging patience and resilience.

“I will stop here for today. But understand this: there are battles in which the only weapon you possess is time. And in a little while, Nnamdi Kanu will be free,” she wrote.
