The recent defection of two senators from Osun State—originally elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fueled intense speculation about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political future.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) officially left the PDP in letters dated June 21, 2025, both citing “irreconcilable differences” within the party as their reason for leaving.

Their departure has heightened anxiety in both the PDP and APC circles, with growing whispers that Governor Adeleke could be the next high-profile defection. The political atmosphere in Osun has since become charged, especially among APC gubernatorial aspirants—some of whom have voiced opposition to Adeleke’s potential entry into the party.

The uncertainty has reportedly begun to affect governance in the state, with several government functions slowing down in recent weeks.

According to Vanguard, former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, responded to the rumoured defection by cautioning Governor Adeleke against attempting to “sneak” into the APC.

He said, “If the state chairman and national chairman are not aware of his intention, then party members are left in the dark. He should engage leaders within the party instead of trying to use his governor allies to slip in unnoticed.”

While Omisore acknowledged Adeleke’s constitutional right to join any party, he stressed the importance of due process and consultation with party stakeholders.

In contrast, Oladele Oyelude, Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, supported the idea of Adeleke joining the APC. He described the governor as a “valuable asset” whose popularity could greatly enhance President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027.

“It would be unwise for presidential appointees or party leaders to oppose Governor Adeleke’s possible move. He remains widely admired in the state, and that could work in favour of the President and the party. Let him join, and we can negotiate other matters later,” Oyelude said.
