Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated that most governors have been enlightened on the benefits of the Tax Reform Bills proposed by President Tinubu.

He emphasized that the governors now understand the positive impact of the bills, which will boost revenue across federal, state, and local governments.

Less than 24 hours after the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) issued a communiqué endorsing the tax bill, President Tinubu praised the governors in a statement, highlighting their genuine intentions for Nigeria’s progress.

However, a source close to a governor revealed to Daily Trust that the agreement was finalized in Lagos.

“The deal was sealed when the governors visited Tinubu for the New Year,” the source said.

“The president assured them that he had good intentions and urged them to give him a chance.”

Another source corroborated, noting that while the governors agreed to support the tax reform bills, they requested some concessions from the president.

The source added that the governors planned to return to Abuja to engage with the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy Reform.

“The sentiment in the region is that the bills are perceived as efforts to impoverish the northern states.”
