Ngannou, who has been absent from MMA since his UFC heavyweight title defense against Ciryl Gane in January 2022, endured a hiatus due to a knee injury. Consequently, he was stripped of his title upon exiting the UFC. Despite signing with the Professional Fighters League in May of last year, Ngannou has yet to make his debut in the promotion, opting instead for a notable boxing venture against Fury last October. The bout witnessed Ngannou knocking down Fury in the third round, coming close to securing victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Despite a split decision favoring Fury, the outcome was met with controversy, with many believing Fury was fortunate to preserve his unblemished record.

Ngannou is slated to face Anthony Joshua on March 8 but has expressed a desire for a rematch with Fury by October this year. However, Murray’s announcement regarding Ngannou’s return to MMA suggests a potential delay in any rematch with Fury. Murray hinted at a summer event for Ngannou’s MMA comeback, expressing anticipation for Ngannou’s impending boxing match against Joshua while cautioning against underestimating Ngannou’s prowess.

The prospect of a rematch with Fury was further illuminated by Ngannou last month, unveiling a contractual provision for a rematch within 12 months of their initial encounter. Ngannou remains steadfast in his pursuit of Fury, unmoved by the outcome of Fury’s bout against Oleksandr Usyk. He harbors a personal grudge against Fury, seeking retribution regardless of Fury’s circumstances.

Meanwhile, Fury has disclosed his extensive fight plans, encompassing two bouts with Usyk, at least one showdown with Joshua, and a rematch with Ngannou. At 35, Fury asserts that he is in the pinnacle of his career and has no intentions of retiring anytime soon, pledging numerous high-profile fights to enthrall fans.

As Ngannou gears up for his clash against Joshua, the MMA and boxing communities eagerly anticipate the outcomes and potential future matchups, including the much-discussed rematch with Tyson Fury.
