Tension In LAUTECH As Lecturers Begin Strike, Call Out Authorities Over Neglect

Clinical lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The strike was confirmed in a statement signed by the Chairman of the LAUTECH Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Ruth Ilori, and Secretary, Abraham Akinbola.
According to the lecturers, the decision followed the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued to the university authorities, who failed to fully implement the salary structure.
“The authorities have failed to meet our demands despite the ultimatum. Only universities in the South-West have yet to comply with the payment structure, resulting in brain drain and setbacks in medical education,” the statement read.
The lecturers urged relevant stakeholders to intervene immediately, warning that prolonged neglect could further destabilize medical education in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Edo State Government has refuted claims that local government workers are being owed salaries due to an alleged financial crisis.
In a statement on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua, dismissed the rumors as false and misleading.
He urged residents to disregard the speculation, attributing it to mischief-makers envious of the administration’s achievements since November 2024.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, Itua clarified that no government employee, including local government staff, is owed any salary.
“All payments, including that of January 2025, have been made in full,” he stressed.
Despite ongoing legal disputes between the state government and some embattled local government chairmen affecting allocation payments, the government assured that local government workers continue to receive their salaries without fail.
