Tension In Rivers! Lawmakers Threaten Action As Fubara Delays Commissioner Nominations
Growing unease is resurfacing in Rivers State as the House of Assembly on Friday raised alarm over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s continued delay in submitting a fresh list of commissioner-nominees for legislative screening.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The concern was tabled during plenary, where lawmakers warned that prolonged leadership gaps across ministries could stall government operations and hamper essential service delivery.
The Assembly noted that during its first sitting following the lifting of emergency rule in September 2025, it had urged the governor to present a new cabinet list to restore effective governance.
However, since then, Governor Fubara has relieved all commissioners appointed during the political turmoil—insisting they were not constitutionally cleared—and has restructured the few who were previously screened by the former Assembly.
Consequently, several strategic ministries are now being managed solely by permanent secretaries, with key sectors such as Education and Communication operating without substantive commissioners.
Legislators expressed frustration with the governor’s continued silence, stressing the urgent need to appoint political heads capable of driving accountability, policy implementation, and efficient delivery of public services.
