The accused, described as a casual employee of the college, is facing charges of unprovoked grievous harm and assault against a student at the Government Girls College in Kuje, FCT.
The police prosecutor, Edwin Inegbenoise, informed the court that the case had been transferred from the Kuje Divisional Police Headquarters to the Criminal Investigation Department in FCT for further inquiry.
Inegbenoise asserted that Henry Iortim, residing in Union Homes Estate, Kuje, reported to the police station that his 16-year-old daughter, a student at the college, had been subjected to assault by the defendant on June 2. It was alleged that during a night study session, the defendant used an iron rod to lash the victim, causing injuries to her palm and other parts of her body.
The prosecutor added that the teacher was charged with violating the provisions of sections 241 and 326 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant, Yusuf, entered a plea of not guilty.
In his decision, Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi granted the defendant bail in the amount of N2 million, with two sureties who must post similar sums and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. He also ordered that the addresses of the sureties be verified by the court’s registrar prior to the defendant’s release.
