This Won’t Stand!’ – Ezekwesili Blasts System Over Natasha’s Treatment
Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, on Friday, extended her congratulations to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following the court ruling that overturned her six-month suspension from the Nigerian Senate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ezekwesili hailed the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja as a triumph over injustice and a reaffirmation of democratic principles. She urged the Senate to promptly reverse its earlier misstep.
Justice Binta Fatima Nyako ruled that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension was unconstitutional and ordered her immediate reinstatement. The senator, representing Kogi Central, was suspended in May after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
Justice Nyako held that the Senate’s action infringed upon the 1999 Constitution and deprived the people of Kogi Central of their constitutional right to representation.
Responding to the ruling in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ezekwesili praised the court’s decision and commended Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for showing resilience under pressure.
She wrote:
“Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan @NatashaAkpoti, congratulations! Today is a powerful reminder of your unforgettable words:
‘This injustice will not be sustained.’
Thank you for exemplifying the courage citizens in a democracy must display in confronting abuse of power by public officeholders.
Congratulations also to the steadfast people of Kogi Central who were unjustly and unconstitutionally denied representation.
