the organized Labor had scheduled the commencement of an indefinite strike for Tuesday, October 3, as a protest against President Tinubu’s administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.
However, during a public lecture and special Juma’at prayer to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, President Tinubu, represented by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, appealed to the workers to postpone the strike action.
Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal on workers and the Nigerian populace.
He stated, “The Sultan has discussed the issue of the NLC strike. I also, on behalf of His Excellency, the President, and the entire government, call on labor leaders to reconsider the strike.
“Let’s engage in dialogue, let’s sit down together, let’s understand one another, and let’s assess the current situation in the country. How can we collectively address the challenges facing our nation? It is through dialogue that we can effectively resolve our problems.”
