aija News reports that Azuta-Mbata, a former senator representing Rivers East in the Senate from 1999 to 2007, was elected as the leader of the prominent Pan-Igbo socio-cultural group during a meeting held in Enugu on Friday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu also commended the successful leadership transition within the organization and urged the new leadership to uphold the principles of their predecessors.
Acknowledging the importance of socio-cultural organizations in nation-building, the President reaffirmed his commitment to fostering dialogue among Nigeria’s ethnic groups. He extended his best wishes to Azuta-Mbata, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the group with distinction.
Meanwhile, Naija News earlier reported that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was plunged into controversy as two individuals were declared President-General of the organization.
Senator John Azuta-Mbata was elected as the 13th President-General in Enugu, while activist and lawyer Dim Uche Nnam Okwukwu was also named President-General during a separate convention in Port Harcourt.
According to reports, the returning officer, Achi Achi, stated that Okwukwu was elected unopposed in a process spearheaded by a progressive movement in Igboland, which took place over two days.
