Among his notable engagements were meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and UN Deputy Secretary-General and former Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed.

This encounter marked the first meeting between President Tinubu and Secretary-General Guterres since his assumption of office on May 29, 2023.

These meetings came on the heels of President Tinubu’s address to world leaders at the UNGA, where he emphasized the importance of safeguarding Africa’s mineral-rich regions from exploitation and conflict.

Drawing attention to instances like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Tinubu highlighted the detrimental impact of unfair treatment and foreign exploitation on Africa’s growth and development.

President Tinubu also stressed the urgency of concrete actions by UN member states to combat illegal arms and mineral smuggling, both into and out of Africa.

He expressed concern over the adverse effects of resource plundering on African nations and called for global cooperation to put an end to this injustice and eradicate poverty in the region.

Additionally, President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s eagerness for business but raised questions about the world’s willingness to engage in mutually beneficial economic partnerships with Africa, including direct investments, export opportunities, and debt relief.

Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of fostering political consensus on climate change, underscoring actions that benefit both the economy and the environment, such as local water management and irrigation projects.

President Tinubu called on established economies to increase their public and private sector investments in Africa’s preferred climate change projects and initiatives.

In summary, President Tinubu’s meetings at the UNGA emphasized Africa’s vital role in the global community and urged the world to recognize Africa as a partner essential to the world’s future.
