According to reports, the order was issued on Tuesday by Judge Beryl Howell, directing major U.S. law enforcement agencies to disclose documents related to their past investigations into President Tinubu. The ruling comes as a result of a lawsuit filed in June 2023 by U.S. citizen Aaron Greenspan under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Greenspan had sued agencies such as the FBI, CIA, IRS, DEA, and the U.S. State Department, accusing them of unlawfully withholding records linked to Tinubu’s alleged ties to drug trafficking in the 1990s.

Premium Times noted that Greenspan’s FOIA request, made between 2022 and 2023, sought documents from a joint investigation conducted by the FBI, IRS, DEA, and U.S. Attorneys in Northern Indiana and Northern Illinois. His request focused on criminal records of four individuals believed to be linked to a heroin trafficking network: Bola Tinubu, Abiodun Agbele, Lee Andrew Edwards, and Mueez Abegboyega Akande.

In response, the agencies issued “Glomar” replies—refusing to confirm or deny the existence of such records. Greenspan challenged the responses, asserting that the information should not be concealed under FOIA exemptions as it was already publicly acknowledged.

Judge Howell partially sided with Greenspan, ruling that the “Glomar” replies from the FBI and DEA were inappropriate. She deemed the agencies’ justifications illogical, particularly since the existence of the Tinubu investigation had already been made public.

He wrote:

“Mischievous and politically mechanized nonsense disguised as a US court order compelling the FBI and DEA. They claim the order was issued on Tuesday, yet it conveniently surfaces in the media on Sunday.
There is nothing these opposition groups—united in a wild goose chase—won’t try just to stay relevant.”
