Why Obaseki Should Not Be Blamed For Failed Portion Of Abuja Benin Highway Matters Arising By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yesterday, the Edo State Governor found himself in an awkward predicament when he was caught attempting to navigate through a failed section of the Abuja Benin Expressway. Unfortunately, he got stuck in a pool of water and faced difficulty in maneuvering out of the situation…CONTINUE READING

As a result, he became the subject of amusement and mockery, making it the talk of the town and a trending topic across the state.

Let me make it clear before I proceed, there is nothing wrong with Obaseki addressing the issue of failed portions on federal roads. In fact, Obaseki received billions from the Buhari administration as a refund for federal roads that were previously constructed by Adams Oshiomhole.

Therefore,it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Obaseki to fix our federal road and then seek reimbursement from the Federal Government. However, it’s important to note that Obaseki should be exonerated in this particular matter concerning the specific road in question.

Earlier this year, the Federal Government informed us that they had already awarded a contract worth 80 billion for the reconstruction of the road from Abuja to Warri. Hence, the responsibility for this road’s repair lies with the Federal Government, and Obaseki should not be held accountable for it.

If the Buhari government indeed awarded the contract, then it is reasonable for Nigerians to demand an explanation from the contractors regarding the delay in commencing the job, especially after several months have passed since the contract was supposedly awarded by the Federal Government.

I firmly believe that if we direct our efforts towards the right authorities, we can make significant progress. But let’s consider the situation realistically. What is Obaseki expected to do in this scenario? Is he supposed to cancel the existing contract and personally award it to another company?

Normally, I wouldn’t have taken the time from my busy schedule to address this, but the reality is that Nigeria is in its current state because we have consistently failed to address issues comprehensively and realistically.

As I repeatedly emphasize, Buhari and his administration were never the root of our problems; instead, it’s our governors that demand our attention. It’s disheartening that we fail to recognize this reality and instead let blind sentiment guide our discussions.

Take, for instance, the removal of the fuel subsidy; our governors, being closer to the grassroots, have become considerably wealthier due to the excess funds at their disposal. Yet, we remain fixated on figures like Tinubu when we should be directing our focus towards how the governors will handle the situation with the additional funds they receive.

As an African proverb goes, “The sun may shine on many, but the shadow falls on only a few.” In this context, it is essential to consider that while all Governors are benefiting  from the excess funds, only a few are actively discussing their plans for the betterment of their states. Surprisingly, our focus remains fixed on Tinubu, who consistently presents measures to alleviate the problem on a daily basis.

In light of these key points, I believe it’s time to shift the blame away from Obaseki regarding the failed road and direct our attention towards the Federal Government to hold the contractor accountable for the project.

Isn’t it disheartening that this road has been in such a dire state even before the Jonathan administration, and yet, until today, we are still discussing the deplorable condition of the Abuja Benin Warri Highway?
