You’re Not The Only Tinubu Supporter! – Furious Rivers Women Fire Back At Wike Over Walkout Drama

The Rivers Professional Women League (RPWL) has pushed back against comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, regarding their walkout during a women’s empowerment event hosted by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident occurred on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the women staged a walkout after discovering that the First Lady was not personally present, and instead sent a representative — Mrs. Theresa Ibas, wife of the sole administrator — to address them. The women had reportedly been informed that Hajiya Fatima Abbas, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, would represent the First Lady.

In a statement jointly signed by Nimi Fiberesima (President), Jennifer Boms Wolugbom (Secretary), and Tambari Menete (Director of Publicity), the RPWL clarified that their action was not a sign of disrespect to Senator Tinubu or her husband, President Bola Tinubu. Instead, they blamed the miscommunication and accused Wike of deliberately misrepresenting the incident for political gain.

The statement reads:

“We are deeply concerned about this continued attempt to heat up the Rivers political climate unnecessarily. It must be clearly stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had no hand in what occurred on May 2nd. The women acted independently and out of genuine concern over what they perceived as being taken for granted.”

They further stated:

“We have the utmost respect for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The unfortunate events stemmed from the disappointment of expecting one dignitary and encountering another without prior notice — a clear breach of protocol. Wike’s attempt to twist the incident into an insult against the Tinubu family is simply a political ploy aimed at smearing the Rivers people.”

The group concluded that public office is temporary and warned against actions that seek to pit the people of Rivers State against national figures, stressing that history will judge all players involved.
