Oba Adejugbe also instructed market traders to adhere to set price limits for food items, emphasizing that these measures were necessary to control the rising cost of foodstuffs in the state capital.

The Ewi-in-Council expressed concern over reports of exploitative practices by traders, which have led to inflated food prices. The new directives are intended to address and rectify this issue.

The Council specified that from now on, “vegetables should not be sold for more than N50; pepper for N100; garri for N700; and a kilogram of meat should be reduced to N4,500.”

Oba Adejugbe stated, “It has been reported that traders, operating under these associations, use middlemen to artificially inflate the prices of essential goods such as tomatoes, pepper, vegetables, palm oil, locust beans, meat, and garri by dictating prices to the farmers who bring these products to the markets.”
