In a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North), stressed that the situation demands “immediate and coordinated action” to safeguard the industry’s integrity and restore public trust.
Senator Buhari noted that the investigation, carried out under the Senate’s constitutional authority, will involve key aviation regulators, airline operators, security agencies, and public interest groups.
According to him, the objective is to uncover the facts, review existing protocols, and swiftly enforce any necessary corrective measures.
“We will not allow procedural loopholes or weak enforcement to compromise safety, professionalism, or public confidence in our aviation system. The Senate Committee on Aviation will ensure accountability at every level,” he said.
The committee assured the public of active oversight and a commitment to delivering practical, enforceable solutions to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The probe follows two headline-making cases. The first involves veteran Fuji star, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, who was allegedly involved in a disturbance at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when he attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos carrying a liquid later identified as alcohol. Reports claim he refused to comply with security checks, prompting a standoff with airline staff and his eventual removal by aviation security.
The second case concerns Ibom Air’s recent lifetime ban on passenger Comfort Emmanson, accused of assaulting crew members on a Uyo–Lagos flight. The airline stated that Emmanson was removed from the ramp, handed over to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security, and subsequently transferred to the police for investigation.
