Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports alleging that he plans to step down for another presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speculations had earlier circulated that Atiku vowed to withdraw from the race if a younger aspirant defeated him in the contest for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket. The claims were reportedly linked to his recent interview with the BBC, where he was quoted as focusing on building the ADC into a formidable party with national and grassroots structures.

However, in a statement released on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the reports as a deliberate distortion of his remarks during the BBC Hausa Service interview.

According to Ibe, a careful review of both the video and transcripts—translated in Hausa and English—revealed that Atiku never said, implied, or suggested that he would step down for anyone.

The statement read in part: “After a thorough review of both the video and transcripts of the interview, it is evident that at no point did the former Vice President expressly state, suggest, or even imply that he intends to step down for anyone. What Atiku Abubakar clearly said was that young people, as well as other presidential aspirants, are free to enter the contest. He further emphasized that should a young candidate emerge through a competitive primary, he would gladly support such a candidate.”

‘Mischief Must Not Be Encouraged’
Ibe condemned the twist given to Atiku’s remarks, stressing that while interpretative journalism is acceptable, manipulating words to create mischief must not be tolerated.

“For the record, therefore, the insinuations attributed to Waziri Adamawa from his BBC Hausa interview are inaccurate and do not reflect what he actually said,” he added.

He reiterated that Atiku has not made any decision to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race before it even begins.
