The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) expressed its approval on Tuesday for the actions taken by President Bola Tinubu’s administration toward fiscal and tax reforms in the country.

ANAN stated that these measures are expected to eventually release resources that will benefit the general population.

Dr. James Neminebor, the National President of ANAN, conveyed this sentiment in Benin City during the 4th Session of the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) held in the Edo State capital….CONTINUE READING

He emphasized that the purpose of the MCPD session is to equip ANAN members with contemporary techniques and standards in accounting, enabling them to provide relevant and necessary data for both government and private organizations to strategize effectively.

Dr. Neminebor elaborated, “The new government has demonstrated pragmatism; it appears that they are well-informed about their approach.

The President has recently established a committee responsible for shaping the fiscal policies of the administration. Remarkably, key professional bodies with financial expertise, including ANAN, ICAN, and CITN, are part of this committee. I myself am a member of this committee.

We are actively involved in shaping the fiscal policy of this administration, including essential tax reforms. Changing the fiscal policy and implementing tax reforms are anticipated to alleviate burdens for the average citizens. This is the fundamental role of government – it serves the people, not itself.”

Dr. Kayode Fasua, the Chief Executive Officer of ANAN, also emphasized the importance of financial bodies’ participation in combating fraud within the nation.

He stressed that fraud is a pervasive issue that requires collective effort for resolution, indicating that sensitization campaigns are crucial to foster awareness and counteract fraudulent practices.

As part of the training, a communiqué will be prepared and sent to the government, as well as to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Dr. Fasua acknowledged the efforts of these organizations, noting that their presence has mitigated even worse circumstances in the realm of fraud. He emphasized the need for continuous national reorientation to effectively address the issue.

Austin Odigie, the state chairman of ANAN, highlighted that the training aims to bridge knowledge gaps among members, particularly in contemporary issues impacting the field of accountancy.
