Governor Mohammed stressed that federal support would not only uplift the morale of the state’s efforts but also amplify their impact.
He acknowledged the significant achievements of local security forces, highlighting that they have neutralized at least 67 bandits and successfully rescued 28 kidnapped victims.
The governor, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, and leaders from prominent security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, emphasized the strategic importance of the area. He remarked, “This region serves as the path for miscreants from the North-West.
My colleagues from the North-West have united to confront the menace of banditry, and they intend to address it at the highest level with the backing of the Federal Government.”
He continued, “We are urging the Federal Government to extend its support to Bauchi State in the battle against banditry.
We are bearing the brunt of this situation. While they focus on countering terrorism, we are experiencing the repercussions due to our proximity to seven states.
We serve as both a gateway to prosperity and a conduit for criminals, and we are stretched thin while working together with minimal support.”
Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to the cause by making a generous donation of N10 million and providing 30 motorcycles to the vigilantes and hunters.
The Caretaker Chairman of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, Samaila Wakili, described the area as a magnet for criminal activities.
He shared the distressing reality that people have been continuously kidnapped and roads blocked by armed robbers for over 41 days.
He further revealed that local vigilante and hunter commanders had requested permission from security agencies to confront the bandits in the wilderness due to the escalating situation.
