The plan involved demanding a $100,000 ransom in Bitcoin from their parents. Okuomo conceived the idea to assist his financially challenged friend, Balogun.

Balogun disappeared from home, and using his phone, Okuomo contacted Balogun’s father, demanding a $20,000 ransom, paid in Bitcoin. Balogun hid in Okuomo’s room at his father’s hotel during this time, leaving his father, a driver, distraught and clueless.

In a twist, Okuomo also feigned his own kidnapping, demanding a $100,000 ransom from his father. The duo then took refuge in a bush for five days, hoping to pressure their families into paying.

Facing intolerable conditions without a ransom, they returned to the hotel and fabricated a story of escape, informing Balogun’s father of their release. Balogun was then taken to a hospital under the guise of being rescued from kidnappers.

Police investigations revealed the entire ordeal was a hoax orchestrated by the students. Hundeyin labeled them as “perpetrators of self-kidnap,” stressing the seriousness of their deceitful actions.

The police warned against such fraudulent schemes, emphasizing the distress they cause to families and the unnecessary diversion of law enforcement resources.
