Federal Government Establishes Committee To Address Compensation For Lagos-Calabar Highway Project....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The inauguration of a compensation verification committee by the Federal Government took place on Thursday, marking a significant step in addressing the concerns of landowners impacted by the project.

Naija News reports that Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, assigned the committee the crucial task of thoroughly reviewing and resolving the claims of individuals affected by the project. The minister emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to transparency during the inauguration ceremony held at the ministry headquarters in Abuja, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of a renewed hope agenda.

The Lagos-Calabar highway project, spanning 700 kilometers and linking Lagos to Cross River through several coastal states, has faced scrutiny regarding its cost and procurement procedures. Minister Umahi clarified that compensation would exclusively be granted to property owners with documented titles. However, individuals with structures within the 250-meter shoreline setback lacking federal government titles will not be eligible for compensation due to legal constraints.

Umahi outlined the compensation process, highlighting the adoption of federal rates, which surpass those offered by Lagos State. Upon completion of necessary documentation and verification, payments will be authorized within 72 hours, with the contractor, Hitech Construction Ltd, responsible for direct disbursements to affected parties.

Furthermore, Umahi explained the methodology for calculating compensation, emphasizing parameters such as area and volume. Verification procedures are scheduled to commence in Lagos the following Wednesday. In instances where title disputes arise, Umahi noted that a presidential waiver would be necessary for compensation to proceed.
