Banks and government offices were closed as workers stayed home, heeding warnings of the planned demonstration. Offices at the Kwara State secretariat were also shuttered due to fears of potential unrest.
Our correspondent noted that shops and banks in prominent commercial areas such as the General Post Office, Challenge, Murtala Mohammed Road, Maraba, Taiwo, Agaka, and Oja Oba were securely locked, with traders opting not to open their stores. A limited number of petrol stations were open, selling fuel to a few motorists.

Security agencies, including the Police, Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Services, Customs, and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were deployed to key locations such as the Post Office and Challenge. An armoured personnel carrier was stationed at the Kwara State Government House.
As of the time of this report, no protests were reported in any part of Ilorin, including the Metropolitan Square where the demonstration was restricted. A few private vehicles were observed on the route to the University of Ilorin in the Tanke area.
It is noteworthy that the state government had secured a court order late Wednesday, restricting the protest to Metropolitan Square in Ilorin. The order was granted by Chief Magistrate Alhaji Jibril Bio Salihu following an ex-parte motion filed by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Ibrahim Sulyman.
