Acting COAS Oluyede Calls For Prayers For Lagbaja In Transition CeremonyMaj.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has officially assumed command as the Acting Chief of Army Staff, marking a historic moment as the first officer in the Nigerian Army to take on this role in an acting capacity. His appointment follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision on Wednesday to temporarily lead the army while the substantive COAS, Lt.-Gen. In his inaugural address, Oluyede expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust placed in him during this crucial time for the nation. He emphasized that his primary goal as Acting COAS is to ensure that Lagbaja has the necessary time to recover fully before returning to his duties.

“As we enter this unique phase, I ask that we all continue to pray for Lt.-Gen. TA Lagbaja’s swift recovery and safe return to complete his career cycle,” Oluyede stated. He also called for support and cooperation from all stakeholders to effectively tackle insecurity in the country and restore Nigeria to a state of peace and economic prosperity.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa affirmed that Oluyede’s appointment aligns with the provisions outlined in the Armed Forces Act, Cap A-20, Laws of the Federation 2004, specifically in the areas of administration, government, and command.
