This assertion comes in response to Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola’s statement urging judges to remain impartial and not succumb to the sentiments of the “mob” while deciding on legal matters, particularly those related to the 2023 general elections.
Justice Ariwoola emphasized the need for judges to uphold the law, irrespective of public opinions or emotions.
Despite these remarks, Yesufu, in a post on her X account, contended that the judiciary is a spineless and controlled entity manipulated by corrupt politicians.
She asserted that the CJN and politicians are well aware of this influence, undermining the judiciary’s independence.
The backdrop for these comments involves the nullification of election results for various public office holders by election tribunals and the Appeal Court, leading to the removal of governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives, particularly from opposition parties.
Accusations of judiciary bias and influence by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have surfaced, with supporters of the affected leaders contesting the integrity of the legal decisions.
