Dubbed the Toghu Marathoner, Afowiri is set to participate in his 17th marathon in Japan, adding to the 673 kilometers he has already conquered across marathons in Europe, America, and Australia.

Reflecting on the upcoming Tokyo event, Afowiri expresses his excitement, noting that it marks his sixth world major marathon, a milestone that will earn him the prestigious six-star major marathoner badge.

While the badge holds significance, Afowiri’s primary focus remains on leveraging the marathon to support the construction of the Tsenmah and Ndzenkov bridges in the Ngondzen Community of Cameroon.

These bridges, currently constructed of deteriorating planks, are on the brink of collapse, causing severe disruptions to the community’s connectivity. With both cars and motorcycles unable to traverse the bridges, villagers face challenges accessing essential services, including education and farming activities.

In response to this pressing need, Afowiri has embarked on a mission to raise funds through his marathon endeavors, rallying support from individuals worldwide to aid in the construction of new, sturdy bridges for the Ngondzen community.

Through his previous 16 marathons, Afowiri has successfully raised funds for various causes, ranging from education and autism research to supporting Ebola victims and building school infrastructure.

For Afowiri, the grueling 42.2 kilometers of the Tokyo marathon are a small sacrifice if they pave the way for the children and women of Ngondzen to traverse safely across well-constructed bridges in the future.
