The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly preparing to investigate human rights activist Deji Adeyanju and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over allegations relating to terrorism financing, illegal funding channels, and other potential security concerns.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The development follows a petition filed by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere, who called on the EFCC to scrutinize the sources and management of funds used by both individuals in their public engagements.

According to The Guardian, the petition urges the commission to examine their sponsorships, advocacy campaigns, media activities, protests, and legal initiatives to ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Dated June 17, 2026, the petition also requests verification of whether their funding sources are legitimate and properly declared.

It further raises concerns about tax compliance, financial disclosures, and adherence to regulatory requirements governing their activities.

Agbomhere argued that the scale of their public influence makes it necessary to closely review their financial dealings to rule out possible violations or hidden funding structures.

The petition also suggested potential security implications, noting that funding channels could, in some cases, be used to shape public opinion or undermine trust in government institutions.

He urged the EFCC to determine whether any local or foreign entities are backing their operations.

Additionally, he called for a full examination of their financial records, including bank accounts, assets, business affiliations, and related organisations, to investigate possible issues such as money laundering, illegal fundraising, or tax evasion.

He also recommended collaboration between the EFCC and other relevant security and financial agencies to assess any national security risks linked to the funding sources.

However, he clarified that the petition is not an accusation of guilt, but rather a request for a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and address public concerns.

He added that if the investigation finds that all funds were lawfully obtained and used, it would help restore public confidence and clarify the situation surrounding their activities.
