This new price was implemented at all NNPCL retail stations in the nation’s capital, much to the delight of customers.

According to Punch, the NNPCL mega station located along Wuse Zone 4 and Olusegun Obasanjo Way in the Central Area sold petrol at ₦965 per litre, attracting a rush of commuters who formed long queues.

One driver, who confirmed the price drop, praised the national oil company but called for a uniform price across all stations for easier access. “Yes, NNPC has reduced its price to N965. I bought it this morning, but the queue is too long, maybe because other stations are selling at different prices,” he said.

However, the price reduction does not apply to independent and major marketers, who continued to sell petrol at prices ranging from ₦1,030 to ₦1,070 at various locations.

Meanwhile, NNPCL has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery’s 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity remains fully operational, despite media reports suggesting otherwise. The refinery, which resumed operations in November 2024 following extensive rehabilitation, is playing a key role in boosting domestic supply.

Earlier reports from The PUNCH indicated that petrol lifting ceased on Friday, December 13, when the 18-arm loading bay of the new Port Harcourt refinery was found empty. Journalists visiting the refinery observed around 18 trucks along the busy road leading to the refinery, with nine trucks parked in the yard, and the loading bay remaining vacant.
