The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the contentious “No-Fly” list, following widespread public backlash over an incident in which her international passport was allegedly confiscated on the orders of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sources at both the airport immigration station and NIS headquarters confirmed the development to Sahara Reporters on Wednesday.

A senior immigration officer disclosed that the senator’s name had initially been added to the list “because she frequently criticizes the Senate during her travels,” reportedly under the instruction of the Senate President.

“It has now been confirmed that she has been cleared from the list after the circulation of that video, which immigration officials said portrayed their agency in a negative light,” the source stated.

The controversy erupted earlier this month when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan shared a video confronting immigration officers who allegedly seized her passport at the airport without a court order.

In the viral footage, the visibly frustrated lawmaker described the action as an unlawful restriction of her movement and a violation of her constitutional rights.

“Hello, fellow Nigerians. I’m Senator Natasha. Having completed my second year in office, I decided to take a week off. I’m at the airport here, and my passport has been withheld again,” she said.

She added that this was not the first time she had been prevented from traveling under similar circumstances.

“The officer in charge told me that the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, instructed them to withhold my passport to prevent me from traveling, claiming that whenever I go abroad, I ‘spoil the image of the country’ by giving interviews to international media,” she explained.
