Okowa made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Oshimili South Local Government Area during consultations linked to his 2027 Senate ambition.

He argued that, contrary to Nwoko’s position, people of Delta North support the creation of Anioma State as part of the South-South geopolitical zone, with Asaba as its capital, rather than aligning it with the South-East.

Describing the senator’s push as a “one-man approach,” Okowa said the campaign lacked proper consultation and did not reflect the collective will of the people. He maintained that such a sensitive matter should be handled through broad engagement rather than individual advocacy.

He also referenced historical efforts that led to Asaba becoming the capital of Delta State, noting that its growth and status should not be undermined by unilateral proposals.

Okowa stressed that decisions on state creation must reflect the majority view of the people, adding that no single individual should impose their preference on the entire region.

He further insisted that discussions around Anioma State should be guided by unity and collective agreement, warning against what he described as misleading narratives.

According to him, the process of state creation follows a clear legislative timeline, suggesting that the current push may not be properly aligned with constitutional procedures.

He concluded that Anioma State remains a legitimate aspiration of the people, but only when pursued through consensus and collective decision-making, including input from political leaders and the broader community.
