He made this known in a statement he personally signed and released on Sunday.
In the statement, Kwankwaso explained that his decision was influenced by recent shifts in the country’s political landscape, which he believes require him to take a new direction.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the party’s national leader and to represent it in the 2023 presidential election.
Kwankwaso acknowledged that leaving the party was a difficult decision, given his long-standing commitment and role within the NNPP.
However, he noted that the current political climate has made it necessary for him to align with a different platform in order to continue contributing meaningfully to national development.
According to him, the move is intended to better position him to support efforts aimed at driving positive change in the country.
Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has directed its members nationwide to join the African Democratic Congress, as political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gain momentum.
The directive was contained in a brief statement issued on Saturday by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed.
