According to a statement from Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, the CAS made these remarks during a meeting in Gombe with Governor Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya.
Air Marshal Abubakar acknowledged that while state governors have the primary responsibility for security, they can count on the support of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to uphold the constitutional rights and freedoms of Nigerians.
Regarding the recent violence and property destruction during protests in Gombe State, Abubakar noted that the situation, which was exacerbated by malicious elements, necessitated additional security measures. Consequently, the NAF deployed aircraft for reconnaissance and collaborated with other security forces to manage the unrest.
In response, Governor Yahaya recognized the challenging period but praised the NAF and other security agencies for their effective handling of security issues, which has helped ensure citizens’ safety. He commended the 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group for their rapid response to recent looting and theft during the protests and promised his government’s support in providing infrastructure to enhance the unit’s capabilities.
