According to the commission, the presentation was in line with constitutional provisions, which require that every candidate declared winner by a Returning Officer must be issued a Certificate of Return within 14 days.

In fulfillment of this mandate, National Commissioners responsible for the affected geopolitical zones handed over certificates to seven successful candidates.

“Following the conclusion of the bye-elections conducted on August 16, 2025, and in line with Section 71(1) of the Electoral Act, sealed Certificates of Return in the prescribed form shall be issued within 14 days to every candidate duly returned by the Returning Officer. These include winners from two Senatorial Districts – Anambra South and Edo Central – as well as five Federal Constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States,” INEC stated.

Meanwhile, Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has faulted INEC over the conduct of the elections. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima alleged that the commission breached constitutional provisions by failing to conduct the bye-elections within three months of the declared vacancies.
