The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed allegations that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, was denied food, family visits, or medical attention while in its custody.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

ICPC spokesperson, Okor Odey, refuted the claims during a press briefing on Monday, describing them as “false and misleading.”

He explained that visitation at ICPC detention facilities is permitted daily between 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., noting that el-Rufai’s wife reportedly arrived outside the approved visiting hours.

“On the Friday in question, one of the defendant’s wives and a housemaid were permitted to bring food to the defendant on no fewer than three occasions between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.,” he said.

Odey added that access to detainees is granted to approved individuals, including family members, legal representatives, and medical personnel, but strictly under supervision.

He also denied claims that el-Rufai’s doctors were barred from seeing him, explaining that officials only requested valid identification before allowing supervised access.

He further stated, “It is a standard security procedure. It bears mentioning that in the week preceding this incident, Malam el-Rufai had requested, and was granted permission to visit both his dentist and eye doctor on two separate occasions.

“The commission accompanied him on both visits.”

The ICPC maintained that it would not engage with what it described as “sensational or misleading narratives” aimed at undermining established institutional procedures.

El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19 over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
