VeryDarkMan’s allegations surfaced in a video that has since gone viral on various social media platforms. In response to these claims, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede released a statement on Tuesday through the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, announcing that a team of investigators has been assembled to probe the allegations.
The EFCC has also extended invitations to both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to appear at its Lagos office for questioning. The statement reads: “The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into bribery allegations involving some officers of the Commission, as claimed by Idris Okuneye (a.k.a. Bobrisky) in a viral video circulating across the country. Okuneye, an ex-convict, alleged in the video, promoted by Martins Vincent Otse (a.k.a. VeryDarkMan), that certain unnamed EFCC officers accepted ₦15,000,000 to dismiss money laundering charges against him.”
In a swift response, the EFCC Chairman has established a team of investigators to thoroughly examine the claims. The Commission has invited both Okuneye and Otse to its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators in uncovering the truth behind the alleged bribery.
The EFCC assured the public that the matter will be diligently investigated, with the findings made public. Any personnel found culpable will face strict disciplinary action. “The EFCC wishes to assure the public that these allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the results of the investigation will be made public. The Commission remains committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times,” the statement added.
Naija News recalls that Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5, after serving a six-month sentence for abusing naira notes, as ruled by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on April 12, 2024.
