A Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has ordered Ali Odefa, the expelled former National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to pay ₦100 million in damages.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The judgement came in response to a suit filed by 20 PDP members, including party executives from Oguduokwor, Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, under case number FHC/AI/CS/FHR/197. The plaintiffs alleged that Odefa’s false and malicious accusations violated their fundamental human rights.
Justice Hilary I. O. Oshomah ruled that Odefa maliciously involved the police in a civil political dispute, accusing the plaintiffs of forgery without evidence. Odefa had claimed the plaintiffs forged documents to facilitate his suspension from the PDP in Oguduokwor Ward, but the court found no proof to support these allegations, declaring his actions an abuse of the legal process.
The court issued a restraining order preventing Odefa and the police from further harassing, arresting, or intimidating the plaintiffs over his suspension from the PDP. Furthermore, the court awarded ₦5 million in damages to each of the 20 plaintiffs, totaling ₦100 million, with payment due within seven days of the judgement. A 10% daily interest rate will apply for delayed payment.
Odefa’s expulsion from the PDP was earlier ratified on December 12, 2024, by the Oguduokwor Ward executives, following recommendations from the party’s disciplinary committee.
