In response to the ban on the validation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo, NANS has appealed for clemency. This request comes in the wake of an investigative report exposing fraudulent activities related to certificate issuance in schools in these neighboring countries. Subsequently, the Nigerian Government implemented a ban on the validation of degree certificates obtained from these educational institutions.

President Ugochukwu Favour urged the government to consider the plight of legitimately admitted students in the affected schools. He emphasized the need for a nuanced approach, stating, “For now, I will say that the Federal Government should look into the issue. Now, you can’t, because it is happening in this school, punish everyone because it involved close to 15,000 students in the Benin Republic.”

Addressing the potential longevity of the issue, Favour mentioned, “I have really not validated if it has been happening for a long time. This is just like what just came out on social media, and we are still trying to find out how long it has been happening. So, that is why I set up a committee as the president to investigate it.
