Fayose Vows Showdown: ‘If Atiku Runs Again, I’ll Fight Him Tooth And Nail
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has made it clear that he will not support Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), if he decides to run again in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayose reiterated his opposition, stating:
“I publicly opposed Atiku before, and I’ll do it again if he contests in 2027. It’s time we learned from our past mistakes.”
Fayose, a long-time critic of Atiku’s candidacy, blamed much of the PDP’s internal crisis on the decision to zone the party’s 2023 presidential ticket to the North—despite the region already holding power for eight consecutive years.
“After a Northern president’s eight-year tenure, it was the South’s turn—whether from the South West, South East, or South South,” he insisted.
According to Fayose, the move to return power to the North created division within the PDP and went against the principle of equity.
“The leaders who zoned power back to the North are responsible for the chaos the party is facing today,” he stated, adding that zoning should be a respected gentleman’s agreement.
He emphasized that while individuals may have differing views on leaders like Nyesom Wike or Peter Obi, the broader issue is about fairness and rotational leadership.
“You don’t have to like Wike or Obi, but there must be mutual respect and understanding when it comes to power rotation.”
Reflecting on the 2023 election, Fayose was unapologetic about his stance:
“Let’s be clear: I worked 100% against Atiku in 2023—not out of personal dislike, but because Nigeria is bigger than the PDP or APC.”
He also called on the PDP to embrace accountability and internal democracy, warning that failure to do so would lead to deeper divisions.
“A party that lacks responsibility will only produce rebellion and resentment. We need fairness, we need structure,” Fayose concluded.
